Andrew Muir (photo coming soon)
Andrew is a highly experienced physiotherapist who represented New Zealand in Lacrosse. He has a keen interest in sports injuries and understands that all types of pain and injury need to be considered from a Biopsychosocial perspective. Understanding the biomechanics alone is not enough in many cases.
Andrew has also trained with Professor Peter O Sullivan in Cognitive Functional Rehabilitation. Professor O Sullivan’s work is very different from standard care in terms of ‘core stability’ and bracing the back or a joint in order to protect it. Andrew can assess your movement and address the incorrect co-activation of muscles that often compounds the issue rather than reducing it.
Andrew has also completed Dr Penney’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program and uses mindfulness based interventions as part of his overall approach. This approach is also important when dealing with degenerative changes and osteoarthritis as the science and evidence whilst very clear in this regard, is not often understood by patients or implemented by practitioners.
Dr Ben Hinchcliff holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from St Augustine University in Florida. Previously the owner of Quay Med Physiotherapy in Auckland, Ben has recently joined the practice as part of our establishing a multi-disciplinary centre of excellence.
Ben is a skilled and experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapist who was previously Director of Homecare and Rehabilitation at Hayes Beach Memorial Hospital in Michigan. Ben also teaches and lectures in physiotherapy to a wide range of audiences and has mentored many junior physiotherapists as part of his commitment to ‘best practice’ Both Ben and Andrew are available every day, Monday-Friday at our convenient location next to the library in Remuera.
